In 2015, with the support of the Fu Jen University Foundation in the United States, the School of Medicine at Fu Jen Catholic University received a generous scholarship donation from the J. T. Tai Foundation. The scholarship assists financially disadvantaged but academically outstanding students, enabling them to complete their studies without financial worries and prepare to serve society as dedicated physicians.

The Foundation was established by the late Mr. J. T. Tai, a renowned Chinese art collector, and later managed by his longtime partner Mrs. Y. C. Chen, who emphasized Tai’s belief that illness affects everyone and that supporting medical students through scholarships is an effective way to help society. Since 1983, the Foundation has supported hundreds of students at U.S. medical schools such as Boston University, Dartmouth, and Georgetown, while also funding medical research.

Our School of Medicine has benefited from the scholarship since 2015, now overseen by KW Hsu and Victoria Hsu. The funding primarily relieves tuition and living costs, and also supports overseas clerkships, and research. By 2024, 226 scholarships had been awarded: 153 for financial need, 73 for overseas or research support. Among recipients, 88 have graduated, many serving at major medical centers in Taiwan or pursuing further studies abroad.

We are deeply grateful to the J. T. Tai Foundation for its long-term support, which allows our students to focus on learning, broaden their horizons, and grow into compassionate physicians.
